Second Stage Housing

Safe, supportive homes for women and children moving forward after abuse.

Coming soon: Edmonton, Affordable, Low Cost Homes

Spaces that feel like home, not just housing for those on lower incomes

Often survivors of abuse and their children do not require shelter type accommodation. However, starting again can be an extended challenge as they navigate lengthy waitlists for long term housing.

What is Second Stage Housing?

Homes that are good quality, safe spaces

Built or customized by investors

Leased and run by Nonprofits

Where women and children, survivors of abuse, get back to normalcy

Second Stage Home tenants are vetted by professionals - Police, Nonprofit agencies, and Social Workers . This leads to longer leases and stable tenancies.

Homes are in alignment with both community goodwill and municipal policy ,which can unlock incentives and permits.

This is a Defensive asset class with a lower correlation to market fluctuations, also, there is a reduced payment risk with managed tenancies.

Savvy investors know that wealth is about more than just making money. It’s risk-managed, mission-aligned, income-producing real estate.

Current Project:

FLEXANEST is proud to support the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation (JMMF), created in memory of Jessica Martel, a young mother of three who was tragically murdered by her partner on the day she tried to leave. Her story is a powerful reminder that the moment of leaving is often the most dangerous time for survivors of domestic violence.

JMMF is working to end domestic violence in Alberta through advocacy, awareness, community engagement, education, and safe housing. They operate Jessie’s House, a 35-bed emergency shelter, and Eileen’s Place, a second-stage housing program.

FlexaNest is working with JMMF to create much needed second-stage homes, creating safe, stable units and stronger support for women and children starting again after surviving abuse.
